With more than 10 projects in various stages of environmental review, design, and construction, desalination is planned to provide 1,500 to 2,000 million liters per day (ml/d) of new fresh drinking water supplies for the state by 2015.

MegaMagnum® reverse osmosis and nanofiltration systems for industrial and municipal applications use 18-inch diameter MegaMagnum membrane elements to reduce cost, footprint, and installation time. They need only half the space of a rack with 8-inch membrane elements and use one-seventh the number of elements to produce the same water quantity and quality as the same fouling rate. The systems are available from Koch Membrane Systems in four configurations with nominal flow capacity ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 million gallons per day.
